Santa Fe Reporter: Music Pick of the Week Missing Link

Updated: Mar 12, 2019

by Loren Bienvenu

The Daniel Link Band would make a good number 14 in my article listing 13 musical developments for the new year (see page 24).

Though Link moved here from Austin in 2010—which, by some standards, qualifies him as a longtime local—he now has a new backing band and a new album to show off.

Book of Shadows is polished, evoking the Wallflowers as much as Elvis Costello in a Southwest alt-rock kind of way. Veteran musicians Daniel Murphy (of the Strange), John Perado (Geronimo Black) and Britt Alexander (Gary Farmer and the Troublemakers) round out Link’s keys and vocals.

These guys sound like they are having a lot of fun, especially when they enter the realm of three-part vocal harmonies. This is your chance to go out and have fun with them. (Loren Bienvenu)

Daniel Link Band: 8 pm Thursday, Jan. 3. No cover. Cowgirl, 319 S Guadalupe St., 982-2565

OUT OF THE SILENCE (2000)

SILENCE COVER.jpg

"The humanity displayed here is accessible to anyone who’s ever felt left of societies center. And the music is potent enough to work for those who simply want sweet melodies and memorable hooks."

Editor-and-Chief

GHOST STORIES (2002)

GHOST STORIES.png

"With its Stevie Nicks/Belladonna album cover homage and its country-tinged pop songs ( the best of which include "Tangled," "Someone In Austin," "True Perspective," "Be Home Soon," "Christine," and "Telepathy" ) , Austin-based Daniel Link's Ghost Stories ( LOAM ) fulfills and expands on the promise of 2000's Out Of The Silence."

COLOR OF RAIN (2005)

"Link is an accomplished tunesmith.  But two other things stand out on "Color of Rain" - Link's resilient voice, which recalls Michael Stipe's at times and Big's arrangement of countless instruments and backup vocals"

Michael Barnes.

Entertainment Editor

BOOK OF SHADOWS (2012)

"Book of Shadows is polished, evoking the Wallflowers as much as Elvis Costello in a Southwest alt-rock kind of way.
